7 Of Jimmy Fallon's Best Musical Performances

by Jennifer Still

Full disclosure: I've loved Jimmy Fallon since way back in his Saturday Night Live days. I didn't mind when he broke mid-sketch (which, let's be honest, happened a lot). I didn't care that he occasionally seemed slightly too smug about his "hottie of Studio 8H" status. I didn't care! I just loved him and thought he was delightful and I was glad he was on my screen. And while Fallon and I may have drifted apart somewhat throughout the years — I mean, come on, I can't stay up until 11:30 p.m. on a weeknight! — I still appreciate all the weird and wonderful things about him that are the cornerstones of his success. Case in point: his musical talents, which were most recently shared in a performance of Jimmy Fallon's original Earth Day song, "Balls In Your Mouth," performed alongside Russell Crowe on The Tonight Show's April 22 episode.

Look, "Balls In Your Mouth" — despite its somewhat gratuitously gross title — is pretty OK. It's all about oil spills and "tar balls" in your mouth if you swim in contaminated water, and the bigger message is that, clearly, we need to get our act together and start taking care of the environment. It was appropriate for the occasion, but I've gotta say, it's not his best work.

Fallon is a parody song genius, so he's got plenty of tracks to choose from when it comes to figuring out which is his best. I can't really pick just one, so let's just celebrate seven of his best and call it a day, shall we?

Jimmy Does A Medley Of Valentine's Day Songs

Perhaps one of the most classic Fallon moments EVER, back from his SNL days. You know this is old school because Colin Quinn was the host of Weekend Update, a position he left in 2000. If you struggle to deal with Cupid's arrival every year, this video should definitely cheer you up.

Jimmy Does "Scrambled Eggs" With Paul McCartney

This track, which was featured on Fallon's comedy album Blow Your Pants Off, is amazing not only because it was set to the tune of "Yesterday", but because it includes Paul McCartney and he's a legend. Plus, with lyrics like "Oh, baby how I love your legs/but not as much as I love scrambled eggs," you can't really go wrong, can you?

Jimmy & Stevie Nicks Recreate The "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" Video

Don't even get me started on how good this is. Fallon isn't even the hero of this clip — because how can you be when you're with Stevie Nicks? — but the fact that this happened at all is amazing, and has to be one of the highlights of his career.

Jimmy Gives Songs Of The Late '90s A Halloween Makeover

Another great SNL moment that's not to be missed if you're a Fallon fan. Giving Matchbox 20 a seasonal makeover? Alright already, you don't have to twist my arm. I'm on board.

Jimmy As Neil Young Doing Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" With Bruce Springsteen

If the title alone isn't enough to win you over, I don't know what will. While not an original Fallon track, it may well as well have been since it's completely different from the original and because Fallon does the best Neil Young impression probably ever (although I know not many people do Neil Young impersonations, so he doesn't have much competition in this arena).

Jimmy & His SNL Cast Mates Do "I Wish It Was Christmas Today"

For some reason or another, this clip, featuring Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Tracy Morgan, and Chris Kattan, is a major fan favorite. And I suppose there's not much not to love about it. Fake snow? Check. Kattan as Fallon's human keyboard stand? Check. Morgan's dance? This is obviously a classic.

Jimmy Sings "(It's Not My) Baby" As Justin Bieber

Anyone impersonating Bieber gets an A+ in my book, and Fallon's version is more hilarious than most, for a reason I can't really put my finger on. Thankfully, I don't need to put my finger on it. I just need to watch and enjoy.
