Ellie Goulding's New Song Could Be Big

by Alex Kritselis

You're going to love this one: Major Lazer's new song, "Powerful," with Ellie Goulding and reggae artist Tarrus Riley debuted on Thursday, and it's a perfect addition to your springtime playlist. In fact, I think the catchy mid-tempo anthem could be another big hit for Goulding. (The British singer's Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack single, "Love Me Like You Do," is currently No. 1 on Billboard's pop radio airplay chart.) "Powerful" is lifted from Major Lazer's upcoming new album, Peace Is The Mission , which is set to be released on June 1.

On the tune's slinky opening verse, Goulding sings:

Oh, my my my what you do to me

Like lightning when I'm swimming in the sea

From the very first time we loved

From the very first time we touched

Walking on wires and power lines

You put your body on top of mine

Every time that you lift me up

To the heavens and stars above

When the pre-chorus arrives, Riley takes over:

Oh, Lord have mercy

I'm begging you, please

I'm feeling drained, I need love

You charge me up like electricity

Jump start my heart with your love

The two singers' voices blend together beautifully on the rousing hook:

There's an energy when you hold me

When you touch me

It's so powerful

I can feel it when you hold me

When you touch me

It's so powerful

There's an energy when you hold me

When you touch me

It's so powerful

I can feel it when you hold me

When you touch me

It's so powerful

When "Powerful" ends, it leaves you wanting more... which is probably a good thing as far as its hit potential is concerned, but it's a little frustrating, too. I want to hear that triumphant chorus come crashing in one more time! Oh well. I guess I'll just have to play the song again.

Peace Is The Mission features collaborations with Ariana Grande, 2 Chainz, Travi$ Scott, and more. You can pre-order the album on iTunes now.
