First things first. If you're wondering, Is New Girl new tonight? Lemme be the bearer of bad news. No, it isn't. It's not on, but that doesn't mean we can't New Girl it up, up in here. So! Remember when Schmidt was the best part of watching FOX's Zooey Deschanel-starring comedy? When he made you laugh even though sometimes he was the most douche-y jerk on the planet? Well, we do, and nothing makes us more sad that remembering the "Old Schmidt" because he was great. He fell comfortably between extreme jerk-dom and being sensitive enough to buy you a cookie just because. AND WE LOVED IT.

New Girl's third season began this fall, the character we used to love got lost in the shuffle of Nick and Jess' relationship and having to choose between Cece and Elizabeth and now we kind of hate him. And it really sucks. Schmidt wasn't emotionally ready to handle making the big Cece/Elizabeth choice and now he's just being hung out to dry. Why, New Girl writers, why?

So, here's our ode to the old Schmidt, the one we loved from his sensitive moments to those of the most douchebaggery.

So tonight, while you're twiddling your thumbs or playing with your cat because it's National Cat Day because there isn't a new episode of New Girl, take a moment of silence to remember "Old Schmidt".
