How To Donate To Nepal Using Just Your Phone

by Jenny Hollander

On Saturday, a massive, estimated 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, leaving at least 1,000 people dead and triggering earthquakes and instability throughout the region. International organizations rushed to provide aid to Nepal and its surrounding countries as it begins to come to terms with the consequences of the gigantic quake. It's Saturday, so you might well be away from your computer —which begs the question: Can you donate to Nepal relief funds on your phone? And, if so, how? (Update: The death toll has now risen to over 3,800, and more than 6,000 people are thought to be injured.)

To learn more about the myriad of ways you can donate to Nepal, see Lauren Barbato's full article on donating here. To donate directly from your phone, you can donate to UNICEF's Children's Emergency Fund here; UNICEF writes on its blog that "Unicef is on the ground, evaluating what needs to be done to immediately respond to the needs of the children, men and women affected." The Nepal Red Cross writes on its blog that it "is working fast to rescue many people trapped in collapsed buildings," and you can donate to that cause here through credit card or PayPal — or give $10 to the Red Cross just by texting “redcross” to 90999.

You can also donate to Oxfam's efforts on the ground here. You can visit GlobalGiving to donate to the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund here, which was set up shortly after the earthquake occurred, or text “GIVE NEPAL” to the number 80088 to give $10 to the same organization. You can also donate to humanitarian organization CARE's Nepal relief fund here.
