Sophia Bush Remembers Ex-Boyfriend Dan Fredinburg

While politicians and Hollywood celebrities mingled at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night, Nepal was being devastated by the aftermath of a deadly earthquake that reportedly killed over 1,900 people and injured 4,700, mostly in Katmandu and areas nearby. According to the New York Times, the earthquake "set off avalanches around Mount Everest" and killed at least 17 climbers including Google engineer Dan Fredinburg. "It is with the greatest sorrow that we report the death of one of our Everest team members, Daniel Fredinburg," Fredinburg's team wrote. "Two other team members have non-life threatening injuries, as a result of the avalanche that struck base camp during the earthquake and its aftershocks."

Reportedly, Fredenburg was the head of privacy for GoogleX, and also happened to also be Chicago P.D. star Sophia Bush's ex-boyfriend. After Fredinburg's sister broke the news on Instagram, Bush followed with a heartfelt post, writing, "There are no adequate words. Today I find myself attempting to pick up the pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I'll likely never find them all. Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend." Bush continued, "Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. Fearless. Funny. A dancing robot who liked to ride dinosaurs and chase the sun and envision a better future for the world."

Us Weekly reports that Fredinburg and Bush remained such close friends following their breakup last year, they'd been planning to meet up when Fredinburg returned from Everest. "He was one of my favorite human beings on Earth," Bush wrote. "He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of my truest friends."
