7 'Game of Thrones' Characters That Need Spinoffs

by Jennifer Still

Anyone who watches Game of Thrones knows the pain of trying to remember the names of about five billion characters at a time — characters spread across several parts of Westeros, with different histories and rulers so many other details that are really, really hard to keep track of at any given time. But the sheer vastness of the Seven Kingdoms is the thing that allows the series to create new storylines and uncover new histories at every corner, and I'm grateful — if not occasionally slightly perplexed/in need of Googling — for the variety. Some characters come and go without making much impact, but others play a significant role in the series without ever really getting enough screen time (on account of making room for the dozens of other characters doing their thing). What if some of them could get their own GoT spinoffs? Wouldn't that be basically the best thing ever? I think so.

Especially lately, I find myself thinking about how much I'd love to watch full episodes about one or two characters and avoid the ones that bore me altogether. For instance, I'm not really all that interested in what's happening at The Wall. I wish I was, really! I wish Jon Snow was in any way exciting to me, but ever since Ygritte died, I can't really be bothered with that whole thing.

Here are 7 Game of Thrones characters that totally deserve a show of their own.

Margaery Tyrell

Sure, Margaery is central to what's going on at King's Landing at the moment, given that she's soon to wed King Tommen, but frankly, I'd love to see more of her pre-King's Landing life. We know she previously supported Renly Baratheon's claim to the Iron Throne, but how did that come to be? What's her family history? GIVE MARGAERY HER OWN SHOW!

Brienne of Tarth

Frankly, I'd take an entire mini-series on Brienne and Jamie's travels and journey back to King's Landing, but since that's somewhat limiting, how about a show all about Brienne's past? How did she come to be such a fierce fighter? We know she was taught by her father to handle a sword, but it's clear that there's more than meets the eye with her. We need to delve into why Brienne is who she is and I think she should have her own series to explore that.

Jon Snow

Admittedly, I think Jon should have his own show for a somewhat selfish reason: I'm not really that into the Night's Watch nonsense. It just doesn't work for me. I do think Jon probably has an interesting story to share, however, if we could go back to how he grew up with the Starks and his relationship with Ned. Now that, I'd watch.

Melisandre

Look, Melisandre is CRAZY. As in, if she lived in modern times, she'd be locked up in solitary confinement for being murderous and insane. She also happens to be one of the most intriguing characters, and I want to know how she ended up coming to Stannis to begin with and how she fell into the Lord of Light religion, anyway. Her powers of manipulation would be so fascinating to watch week after week, don't you think?

Arya Stark

Poor Arya — she's really had a hard go of things, hasn't she? While she's about to embark on a new life in Braavos under the tutelage of Jaquen H'ghar, there's no way she's going to get enough screen time for us to fully explore that. I would SO watch a show about Arya learning to become an even better fighter and really come into her own. Maybe become Queen of Braavos?

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion has now traveled across the Narrow Sea with Varys and big things are ahead for him (I won't spoil you). But I'd love to see more of his rollicking across Westeros before everything went to crap and this whole war for the Iron Throne started up. He was just living it up, seeing prostitutes and drinking and being awesome. We need more of that in our lives!

Daenerys Targaryon

This is, perhaps, a bit too obvious, but that's exactly why Dany is on the list. Things are getting pretty hairy over in Meereen, and now that she's basically made enemies of the very people who once called her Mhysa (Mother). Her rise to power has been one of the most fascinating things to happen on Game of Thrones, I'm tired of only seeing her for, like, 20 minutes an episode. She needs her own series!
