Will 'Gotham' Kill Off An Important Mobster?

by Kayla Hawkins

We've almost reached the end of Gotham Season 1, so it's time to start thinking about what the big cliffhangers at the end of finale are going to be. Will something major change? For example, will Carmine Falcone die on Gotham ? If Falcone dies or leaves the city, even though it goes against what it says should happen in the comics, than it could totally shake up the Gotham power rankings. What prompts this speculation is a borderline spoilery photo released in advance of the finale that shows Falcone in a hospital bed of some kind, with a nervous Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin looking on with concern. You may recognize it from just above this article!

This could mean a million things for the show — if John Doman is just too busy being a jerk on The Affair or something, maybe Falcone is just going to continue falling into declining health, appointing Oswald as his consigliere or something. But, if the show really goes though with a major character death and Falcone does bite the bullet by the finale, who will take over his vast empire of organized crime? Remember, he owns at least one nightclub, controls the docks, owns plenty of real estate including a vested interest in the Arkham project, has assassins on speed dial, keeps vaults of cash, and controls politicians and businessmen that work for Gotham's police department and biggest corporation, Wayne Enterprises. Whew. So whomever inherits this is going to become a major character right away. Let's hope the right person gets the job.

His Unseen Son/Family Members

In the comics and the movies, the Falcone family passes down the torch from father to son, but the show hasn't introduced or cast anyone in Falcone's family yet. That could be an amazing antagonist introduced in Season 2, so maybe they'll set up Falcone for a fall and suggest that his son or brother is getting ready to take his place. Maybe it will be someone who hates Penguin, doesn't want to work with the cops, and basically becomes the chief villain of the second season.

Fish Mooney

Ha ha ha... no. That's not going to happen willingly, especially now that we know that Jada Pinkett Smith won't be back for Season 2. But maybe she'll be the one to either take Falcone out or almost take him out.

Victor Zsasz

Zsasz is Falcone's favorite assassin, so there's certainly a chance that he could get a bigger role if Falcone is, say, bedridden and unable to go out and gather his own intel or carry out his own hits. But Zsasz is nothing more than a hired gun to Falcone. I don't think he'll be getting any real power.

Salvatore Maroni

"Maroni??" you may be thinking. "But he's Falcone's sworn enemy!" That's right, and that puts Maroni in a position to steal Falcone's territory.

Penguin

Right now, Penguin is the only character who is serving any mobster skills. He's the only person who's still watching his enemies, keeping them close, and brokering deals to kill them. He's a little sloppy right now, going for a Maroni hit, but I still think he's got the best chance to take home the kingdom.
