Jenny Slate's Headed To Television

by Kaitlin Reilly

Two fantastically funny females are teaming up on television, and the show couldn't sound more perfect. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jenny Slate and Ari Graynor will co-star in a new comedy for FX. The yet-untitled project has a concept out of your favorite buddy drama Thelma & Louise, with one major exception — "nobody dies." The show follows two friends who leave New York City in order to travel across the country together, which means that we can assume that hijinks are inevitable. With Slate and Graynor taking turns driving, this is one roadtrip that I'd be more than happy to crash.

Slate and Graynor are established comedians, but neither has had a fair shot at a leading role. Slate, perhaps best known for accidentally dropping the F bomb on Saturday Night Live (and subsequently getting fired from the sketch show) recently garnered acclaim for her dramedy Obvious Childand remains one of the best parts of The Kroll Show with her "Publizity" sketch. Graynor, who starred in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and For A Good Time, Call...had her shot on TV as the lead role in the Bad Teacher television adaptation, but unfortunately the material wasn't nearly as good as Graynor's performance. With Slate onboard as both a co-star and as executive producer, I have hopes that this series just might be worthy of both of their talents.
