He'll Be Donning Yet Another Superhero Costume

by Alanna Bennett

Move over, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans: There's a new Avengers dude in town. More specifically, Avengers: Age of Ultron cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson as its Quicksilver. He will be playing half of a superhero duo with Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, so prepare yourselves for all the weird incest-y vibes that come when two extremely attractive people banter on-screen but also happen to be playing siblings.

Of course, Taylor-Johnson is best known as the star/title character in Kick-Ass, so he's used to playing the whole superhero schtick. He's also been long-rumored to be playing Quicksilver, so it's nice to have something concrete to tack to that.

So what was the delay in announcing Taylor-Johnson's casting? Apparently, that would be a scheduling conflict with the upcoming Godzilla reboot he's starring in. Which... we're just gonna breeze right past that because we don't have the energy to deal with that right now.

Another complication with Johnson's role is that both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Magneto's children from the X-Men comics, which means there's been some quibbling between Marvel and Fox over who gets to say what about what characters. Basically, X-Men: Days of Future Past will also have a Quicksilver (that one played by American Horror Story: Coven 's Evan Peters), and Age of Ultron isn't allowed to say the word "mutant" because eff you that's why.

Still, we're psyched that Marvel and Fox waded through their collective crap and Taylor-Johnson sorted out his horrible reboot-starring to bring us an actual announcement of his casting, even if studio quibbling will mean his and Scarlet Witch's origin stories will have to be altered.
