'Hunger Games' Actress Talks Baltimore Riots

This pretty much sums up why singer and idol Taylor Swift chose Amandla Stenberg as one of her "Women of Tomorrow." In light of the Baltimore riots on Monday, Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg is talked about Baltimore and weighed in on the protests that some might see as "savage." The actress stood up for those in Baltimore and hopes others will do the same. On Tuesday, Stenberg took to Twitter to voice her opinions and said,

My prayers go out to all my brothers & sisters in Baltimore. This battle is hard but crucial. The revolutionary youth will change the world.

She then added,

Don't condemn our anger. Don't denounce our pain as savage. What's savage is the cruel inhumanity and brutality of the police. Condemn that.

On Monday, the mostly peaceful Baltimore protests following the death of Freddie Gray turned violent when protesters jumped on police cars, smashed store windows, burned cars, and lit fire to a CVS. Many have been speaking out about the riots, including the ever-so-controversial Donald Trump, among many other celebrities like Stenberg who are standing up for the protesters.

Whether or not you agree with her comments, there's no doubt that even at 16 years old the actress won't sit back when it comes to voicing her opinion for something that matters to her. She is wise beyond her years, which Stenberg proved when she explained cultural appropriation as part of a school project. Again, she is showing others that even though she is young, she, too, has thoughts, feelings, and opinions when it comes to important issues of today.

For that, Stenberg is proving to be quite the role model for youth everywhere.
