Our Nominees For Men's Fashion Week Ambassador

by Tyler Atwood

In case you've been turning a deaf ear to the rumors, The Council of Fashion Designers of America is currently planning the premiere New York Fashion Week: Men’s, and to say the industry is abuzz with the possibilities would be an understatement. The latest gossip doesn't regard which designers plan to participate or how the creation of a menswear fashion week will transform the formerly female-centric convention, but instead concerns the New York Fashion Week: Men’s ambassador. According to Women's Wear Daily, the CFDA is on the hunt for a man with with panache and sartorial skill to spare who will publicly represent the new venture.

With its coterie of well-known arbiters of style, from Anna Wintour to Diane von Furstenberg, New York Fashion Week needs no extraneous publicity to achieve prominence. New York Fashion Week: Men’s, on the other hand, needs a boost of approval in order to really take off, and a renowned representative would do wonders in kicking off the week, which begins on July 13.

But the question remains: which actor, designer, comedian, or athlete should the CFDA choose as its sole style pundit? The choice is by no means simple, so I decided to offer my humble opinion. Read on for seven natty and notorious male style mongers who should be elected to the post of New York Fashion Week: Men’s ambassador.

1. Taye Diggs

Think back to a moment when Taye Diggs didn't hit the red carpet in a well-tailored, imaginative, and uniquely styled ensemble. If you're coming up with a blank, the reason is Diggs' pristine sartorial record.

2. David Beckham

As husband to designer Victoria, David Beckham has evidently learned a thing or two about dressing himself in incredibly dignified wares. In addition, the footballer has a second career in modeling — all the better for his (hopeful) new role as ambassador.

3. Ryan Gosling

At once laid-back and buttoned-up in his sartorial choices, Ryan Gosling deserves a nomination at least for the position.

4. Johannes Huebl

Husband to industry icon and socialite Olivia Palermo, model Johannes Huebl refuses to shy away from daring style statements, and embraces the art of dressing up.

5. Bryan Grey Yambao (aka Bryanboy)

Fashion blogger Bryan Grey Yambao, also referred to by the moniker Bryanboy, has a keen eye for trends and a lack of sartorial inhibition which make him a perfect candidate for ambassador.

6. Scott Schuman

The brain and camera behind The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman has spent years studying and chronicling fashion through photographs, which makes him perfect for the job.

7. Pharrell Williams

If the crooner and fashion plate's Vivienne Westwood hat generated millions of viewers for the Grammy awards, just imagine what his innate sartorial sense could do for Men's Fashion Week.
