Ellen's Halloween Costume Was Great, Guys

by Alanna Bennett

See, Julianne Hough? It's totally possible to dress up as someone of another race for Halloween and not come off as totally racist. Ellen DeGeneres's Halloween costume was Nicki Minaj, and that is all the proof you need. Ah, Ellen.

Some backstory: Last month Nicki Minaj made an appearance on Ellen wearing quite the memorable outfit (she's Nicki Minaj, that's how she do). The ensemble included leather pants, a cropped jacket, and, most memorably, no bra.

DeGeneres, being a supremely good-natured person but also a comedian, decided to take Halloween as an opportunity to poke fun at all the attention Minaj's outfit brought to Minaj and to the show. "This year I decided to go as something really scary, half-naked," she joked in the episode airing Oct. 31 . "Of course, I'm Nicki Minaj. Nicki was on the show a few weeks ago and her shirt was not ... she took our show from PG to double D, that's what she did!"

DeGeneres then called her bottom her "super bass" and her prosthetic breasts "boom booms," because really how can you dress up as Nicki Minaj without including some Minaj-inspired wordplay?Take note, Julianne Hough: One does not need to paint one's face to pay homage to a person/character in one's Halloween costume. One must simply capture their general essence and/or be Ellen DeGeneres. Could pop stars in skimpy clothes be one of the great racial equalizers these days? Take that as you will.
