9 Gorgeous Pictures to Inspire Your Best-Ever November

This isn't your average weekend. We're still staggering from Halloween festivities while catapulting straight into a brand new month. What song should epitomize our joy? There's always The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love", but that's a little basic. I'm a big fan of Rihanna's "Cheers (Drink to That)", which is annoyingly repetitive and but horribly catchy. What about "One More Saturday Night" by the Grateful Dead, or the adorable "Friday On My Mind" by the Easybeats? Whatever jam you play, don't just look up from your computers and note lethargically that the weekend is here. We need to celebrate.

I like to treat the start of each new month as a mini-New Years — you know, by making new resolutions, starting new projects, and thinking for the hundredth time about getting a juicer. November is a weird month in the seasonal spectrum; it's on the shivery end of fall and things are getting a little darker, but there's the bright, tryptophan-fueled light of Thanksgiving at the end of the tunnel. It's the perfect month to slow down and focus on the work (and life) you love.

Celebrate Día de los Muertos

This gorgeous two-day holiday is occuring today and tomorrow, and it makes Thanksgiving look mainstream. Sugar skulls? Marigolds? Celebrating the dead? If you don't traditionally celebrate Día de los Muertos, consider making something delicious in the day's honor.

Judge last night's celebrity costumes

Oh, come on, you knew you were planning to. Slideshows of celebrity costumes are one of the world's greatest indulgent joys. I personally judge anyone who went as a sexy cat.

And applaud the celebs who dressed up right

Matt Lauer went as Pamela Anderson from Baywatch. Is the planet still turning? Heidi Klum went as a really wrinkly old lady, which is a shocking move from someone who likes to post Instagram shots of her sideboob.

Eat all the candy from last night...

Why should only little kids experience that poignant joy of waking up to a whole pillowcase of untouched treats? And you know what they say: Life is short, eat the good Halloween candy first.

...and then eat some kale

Life is all about finding that sweet spot between kale and Kit Kats, and you can quote me on that.

Start National Novel Writing Month off right

Coffee, paper, and what I can only assume is a wonderfully solitary morning.. .this picture is just about perfect. Even if you're not writing an entire novel this month (perhaps because you're sane?), use the energy of all the crazed November writers to catapult you into your own project. Pour coffee, shut down distractions, and begin by making a handwritten list — it feels so good.

Consider a facial mask

Trust me, after whatever you wore on your face last night, your skin needs this. I've been loving yogurt, honey, and turmeric lately.

Finally wear that super-dark lipstick

If this picture doesn't convince you to try glossy, near-black lipstick — and chunky layered gold necklaces — I don't know what will.

Get outside while you still can

There are still flaming maple trees to admire, inspiring walks to be had through bare forests, and bonfires to dance around. Even if you just poke your head out of the window, shiver, and return to your pile of blankets, don't forget to remember how good November air smells.
