Anna Wintour's Frock Is Totally Unexpected

by Tyler Atwood

Just when the public thinks they have a lock on Anna Wintour's style, the Vogue editor steps out in something utterly unexpected. As the host of one of the year's grandest affairs, Anna Wintour at the 2015 Met Gala has the utmost responsibility to sport an ensemble as avant-garde as it is elegant — and the sartorial maestro's Chanel frock is beautifully on-point for the occasion.

Heavily beaded and embellished with blossoms, Anna Wintour is the very picture of a modern flamenco dancer, a look that may not exactly evoke the evening's theme (China: Through The Looking Glass) but certainly channels its audacious energy. Of the many gowns Anna Wintour was expected to wear on this most auspicious of occasions, a gown whose overwhelming blossoms recall the flower people from Alice in Wonderland was quite low on the list.

Nevertheless, the weather in New York City is a balmy 82 degrees, and Wintour's dauntless gown certainly celebrates the somewhat delayed arrival of spring, as do her strappy nude heeled sandals and omnipresent sunglasses. The fashion virtuoso is notoriously reticent to engage in acts of tomfoolery or, god forbid, overt revelry, but this dress deserves to be taken for a spin around the dance floor. The Met Ball is, after all, Wintour's night to shine, so who is to say the editor won't break out her finest dance moves during the afterparty? Only time will tell.
