Celebrities Have Some Very Unique Prom Stories

by Jaclyn Anglis

Prom: to go or not to go? That is the question millions of high schoolers ask themselves around this time every year. As we all know, prom can be the most exciting night of a teenage life or it can be a disaster. Or it can be nothing but mediocre, with no exciting stories to tell and an underwhelming feeling of, this is it? Well, fortunately for those of us who don't have tantalizing tales to tell about the dance, we can at least live vicariously through celebrities who were willing to spill the beans.

Now, it goes without saying that not every celebrity had a prom night they want to remember. Poor Madonna sat at home because she couldn't find a date. Matt Damon was forced to watch his date hook up with her ex-boyfriend. Ice Cube's mom forced him to take his ex-girlfriend since she had already bought a dress. But for some celebrities, prom —whether it was their own or someone else's — was a big deal in a much more exciting way.

Here is a round up of just a few of the most unique celebrity prom stories, because sometimes all the hype surrounding the big dance is actually worth it.

Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato

Back when Gomez and Lovato were BFFs in 2009, the two happened to be at the same Toronto hotel that was hosting a prom in the ballroom. The two singers decided to crash it! Gomez told Seventeen, "We walked into the ballroom and just started dancing. After a couple songs, people started to notice we were there. I got scared I was going to get in trouble, but all the students let us dance with them." Even the school principal joined in on the fun!

Cher Lloyd

How's this for a self-fulfilling prophecy? At Lloyd's prom, she was voted Most Likely To Become Famous. "I was on X Factor a few months later," Lloyd told Seventeen. By the way, she made a grand entrance in a Hummer limo. Not too shabby!

Halle Berry

At a mostly white high school, Halle Berry was the first black woman to be voted prom queen. She told Harper's Bazaar , "I was accused of stuffing the ballot box for my high school prom-queen election because they couldn't believe the only black girl in the school won." It's safe to say she's more than earned her crown!

When a fan asked Adam Sandler to prom at an HBO event, he said, “Yes, and I will even press against you in a way that won’t make Daddy happy.” And he did end up going to the prom! Jury's out on whether or not the young woman's dad was happy, though!

Christina Aguilera

Imagine having your own hit song played at your prom. That's what happened to Christina Aguilera at her prom back in 1999. Sadly, when "Genie in a Bottle" came on, her classmates left the floor out of jealousy. It's safe to say that at this point, she showed them!

Taylor Lautner

You know you've hit the high school jackpot when you have a prom that's just like the movies. The one-in-a-million chance actually happened to one lucky fellow: Taylor Lautner. He said, "You always watch a prom in movies growing up and then it's like, 'Oh wow, I'm at prom!' It was a cool experience." Good for him!

Zoe Kazan

Kazan's school did a scavenger hunt with clues on how to get to the location, and she and her date found themselves in a pickle during it. She told Refinery 29, "So like halfway through this prom hunt, our limo breaks down on the 405. We manage to push it off the freeway into this gas station. We're standing there waiting and my other childhood best friend drives by, spots the limo, sees my date in his jacket and thinks, 'Oh, that has to be Max. That must be Max and Zoe — why are they there?' He pulls off the freeway and drives us to prom in her beat-up Volvo station wagon." Not only did her date's jacket save prom, they also watched Tim Burton movies together afterward!

Sherri Shepherd

You know how you have that one regret from high school, such as not attending your own prom? Well, if you're Sherri Shepherd, you can still get the chance to experience it, nearly two decades after the fact! WWE star MVP escorted her, and all eyes were on the two of them. "I feel like we're the black Ken and Barbie," she said of finally experiencing her big night.

For his 1978 prom, George Clooney took his lucky date to the dance in his father's red and white Corvette. Of course he did.
