4 Great Lube Hacks To Get Things Going

by Aly Walansky

No matter how attracted we may be to our partner, lube is a great addition to any steamy evening. It's also imperative for masturbation. Lube has tons of important purposes (in and out of the bedroom, actually) but it's most known for making sex more enjoyable and safer. Obviously the best lube to use is actual lube, but there's times we don't have it readily available. So, what can you use instead of lube?

The right lube can make the difference between OK or uncomfortable sex and great sex, and it can be great in a quickie. Men are most often ready to go rather quickly, but women require a certain amount of time and foreplay to get going, and lube can help turn that into an express route.

As we get older and things get dryer (sorry, it's going to happen) lube becomes even more imperative, but even if you are young or have no problem getting things going, the old adage remains tried and true: The wetter you can be, the better.

That doesn't mean our fun has to suffer. There's some awesome alternatives out there you may want to give a try.

1. Fantasize

Think about anything that has ever turned you on, suggests Dr. Jess, Astroglide's resident sexologist. From a hot and heavy session with an ex to a conversation that got you all riled up, anything and everything is fair game.

2. Grab a vibe

Many people find that the vibrating sensations help to promote lubrication, relaxation and arousal, so dive in and enjoy those good vibrations, says Dr. Jess.

3. Coconut oil

“Silicone lubricants are my usual go-to, and they’re usually readily available on set. But in an emergency situation, I've used everything from organic coconut oil to good old-fashioned spit to get my female partners slippery and wet," says Moe “The Monster” Johnson, male porn star.

4. Exercise

"People who work out regularly consistently have higher levels of desire, arousal, sexual response, orgasm and sexual satisfaction, so drop and give me 10 burpees!" says Dr. Jess.
