Was The 'OUAT' Finale This Brutal?

by Christine DiStasio

Are you kidding me, Once Upon a Time? After waiting through all of Season 3 for Captain Swan to get together for real, Hook died on the Once Upon a Time Season 4 finale. Well, Hook may have died on the ABC series — but it was brutal either way. Sunday night's finale was set in the Author's new Heroes & Villains world and, unfortunately, Hook was a casualty in Henry's quest to return everyone to Storybrooke. The finale left us wondering — for only a half hour, thankfully — whether or not Hook is alive on OUAT and, thankfully, he is and Captain Swan are back together stronger than ever. Well, even though she still couldn't tell him that she loves him.

Is Emma ever going to get over her issues and give Hook a real chance at showing her true love? Probably not if Hook's sacrifice during their time in the alternate-universe Enchanted Forest wasn't good enough for her. On "Operation Mongoose Part 1 & 2," Hook let evil-Charming kill him so that Emma and Henry could get away and continue Henry's attempt at returning order to the world he knew. Yes, Emma watched that happen, so why can't she just tell him how she really feels?

The first thing Emma begged Henry for when everyone realized that he was the new Author, was for him to write them back into Storybrooke and to return Hook to life. And it was obvious when they returned that Emma was upset about the idea of his death not being reversed. So, any Captain Swan fan would feel so incredibly frustrated with Emma coming with, "I just wanted to say thank you." C'mon, girl, YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT. Hook and Emma obviously love each other — not even the alternate-universe versions of themselves were attracted to one another. So, now that our favorite pirate has suffered TWO potential deaths in Season 4, can he at least get a little love, Emma?
