This Is the Worst Idea Ever

Full disclosure: I was going to try and construct this first paragraph completely in rhyme, but then I decided a) Way too much effort to put into a post about a show that I am extremely mad at right now, and b) I don't need to subject you all to my terrible rhyming skills. Unfortunately, How I Met Your Mother does: According to star Cobie Smulders, who portrays Robin, an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother will consist of rhyme. Yes — as in, every other line will exclusively be in rhyme.

Wait, what?

"We just shot an episode where the entire thing is in rhyme. And it was so much fun," Smulders told E! exclusively. "It's like every second line is a rhyme. It varies...the writers just nailed it. It's so fun and they just made it so funny, but so lyrical at the same time."

Now, I don't know about you, but, to me, it kind of sounds like Smulders is saying this with forced enthusiasm as she grins and tries not to give away the fact that someone is holding a gun to her head...or something. This is a terrible idea, HIMYM! And that's saying something, because this entire season was, for some reason, constructed to take place over a one weekend period. And what is even the point of Marshall's storyline this season, with the unlikable Daphne? As TV.com points out, it seems weak to detach a main character from the main storyline when you're trying to pull off a 24-esque episode structure — even weaker than constructing a whole episode in rhyme as a gimmick to get people to watch. Do you think they're even trying, anymore?

No word on when the rhyme-tastic episode will air, but do we even care?
