Photos & Videos From Nepal's Second Earthquake

Just two weeks after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal and left more than 8,150 people dead, a second magnitude 7.3 earthquake rocked the country Tuesday. The epicenter was near Mount Everest, roughly 40 miles west of the town Namche Bazaar, and dozens are reported dead. A number of aftershocks ranging between magnitudes 5.0 and 6.3 followed within hours of the initial quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Photos and videos from the second Nepal earthquake showed people terrified and running into the open streets, with memories of the April 25 earthquake that devastated the Kathmandu valley likely fresh in their minds.

Four people were reported dead in Chautara, Nepal, located just north of Kathmandu, according to Reuters, and more than 300 were injured. A four-story building in Nayabazar collapsed, with people like trapped underneath the rubble. Three major landslides were also reported in the Sindhupalchowk region, which left at least 12 people injured, according to a local official.

The powerful quake was felt as far as India's capital in New Delhi. The Times of India reported there were at least two deaths in the eastern state of Bihar.

Since last month's deadly earthquake, Nepal has been in recovery mode. But relief efforts have been slow, and the country will likely be in need of aid for years to come. What progress has been made, however, will likely be put on hold as officials assess how much more damage — and how many more deaths — have resulted from Tuesday's quake.
