Podrick Is 'GoT's Most Underrated Character

When you're dealing with a cast that's as massive as the one on Game of Thrones, it's easy for some of those characters to get somewhat overlooked. A big part of this has to do with the fact that they just don't have enough screen time. Heck, there are times when even the most pivotal characters like Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen don't show up in an episode at all. So you can imagine how hard it can be for a side character to get the proper limelight they deserve. One such person that immediately comes to mind regarding such matters is Podrick Payne, Game of Thrones ' most underrated character of all time.

He may not get epic monologues like some of these Westeros characters. (In fact, he doesn't get many lines to speak at all, really.) But what this squire gets denied verbally, he more than makes up for in his actions, which have proven to be both genuine and highly noble. He's the kind of character that's impossible not to fall in love with, no matter how much (or how little) time he's given on-screen. And if you stop for a minute to think about it, you'll see that he's actually the series' unsung hero. Need some proof? I thought you'd never ask.

1. He's Loyal To A Fault

This is a rare quality indeed among GoT characters. While power-hungry men are never in short supply on this show, Podrick's unlimited selflessness makes for a refreshing change of pace. No one has been a more honest and dedicated friend to Tyrion than this guy and it's downright heartwarming.

2. He's Extremely Courageous

He may not have the skills of a warrior, but you'll never see this guy run from the battlefield. He'll fight and stand his ground no matter what.

3. In Fact, It's Thanks To Him That Tyrion Is Even Alive

That's right, he saved one of the most fundamental characters on the show that could end up saving everyone. Let's give credit where credit is due.

4. He Gives Brienne The Respect She Deserves

While most of the men on this show underestimate Brienne due to the fact that she's (gasp!) a woman, Podrick is well aware of her skill set and has no problem serving as her inferior. Way to kick sexism out the Moon Door, Pod!

5. He's Adorably Awkward

I mean, seriously, how cute is he?

6. He's Also An Amazing Lover

In fact, judging by the way ladies talk, he's pretty much a Sex God.

7. And Yet Remains Completely Humble

When you're that good, you don't have to brag.

8. He Shows Remorse For His Sins

Killing is so common on this show you sometimes forget that the characters are supposed to feel bad about it. Podrick is the only one that seems to have a guilty conscience, further proving just how innocent he really is.

9. He's Great At Keeping Secrets

Podrick could've easily revealed Shae's identity to Cersei way back when and been granted knighthood. But he didn't. He'd rather remain a lowly squire forever than become a conniving backstabber out to advance his career. So whatever you tell him remains in the strictest of confidence. That's why his hair is so thick and luscious BTW. Like Gretchen Weiners, it's full of secrets.

10. He Makes For A Great Drinking Buddy

Just ask Olenna Tyrell. (Also, can we get a spin-off of these two, please?)

11. It Just Really Doesn't Get Much Better Than Him

We love you, Pod. Never change!
