Rachel McAdams' New Cover Screams 'The Notebook'

After a bit of a career lull, the once-red hot Rachel McAdams is in the middle of a resurgence. She has a big screen role opposite Bradley Cooper in Aloha and will star in the second season of True Detective. To celebrate her big return, Rachel McAdams covers Marie Claire this month — and the spread is giving us serious flashbacks to her Notebook-era style.

McAdams dons a sheer-but-colorful floral dress on the cover, with her honey blonde ombre lob blown back off her face. It's a romantic look for the actress, who is perhaps best known as Regina George in Mean Girls and for dating her The Notebook co-star Ryan Gosling at the height of her fame. The dress and her young, natural, fresh makeup look also take a bit of inspo from The Notebook in that they're so sweet and soft.

Remember how amazing all the costumes were in that film? It offered a delightful dose of super-feminine 1940s and 1950s frocks, along with victory rolls, pin curls, and red lipstick galore. The Marie Claire cover isn't the only time McAdams has looked to Allie for fashion influence; that vintage vibe has permeated her IRL looks for years now.

So pretty and feminine, right?

Here's 9 times McAdams went with a romantic, The Notebook-y look, with a little modern spin for the aughts.

1. Modern Maxi

While the tiered maxi has a plunging neckline, the flowing and busy print maxi is uber romantic, just like Allie and Noah's relationship.

2. Vintage-y Updo

McAdams' piecey updo is the height of classic (but not old-fashioned) 'dos. The bangs frame her face and this coif would be even more amazing paired with a floral frock.

3. Ladylike In White

This frilly and ruffle top white dress, which gets an edgy kick from the hot pink shoes and hair accessory, is the epitome of The Notebook chic. It's so ladylike.

4. The Blues

The cobalt color of this dress sort of reminded me of the blue dress McAdams wore as Allie when she and Gosling's Noah were majorly making out in the rain. It's a brighter shade, but there's something about RA in a blue dress.

5. Old Hollywood Glam

McAdams channeled the '40s with this belted, grey, one-shoulder dress, paired with big curls and red nails and lips. Is this how Allie would clean up?

6. Full & Floral Formal

This floral confection is a red carpet upgrade to the dresses in The Notebook. The swirls of color and fabric are so romantic and any lover of the film would want to wear this dress to a formal occasion.

7. Fingerwaves

What's more romantic than The Notebook? Oh, just a lob with defined curls.

8. Statement Lips

The bangs aren't super classic, but those statement, tomato red lips certainly are. Perfectly painted lips hark back to another era, for sure.

9. Milkmaid Braids

The milkmaid braids are also the definition of romantic and sweet. They keep her hair out of her face so she could kiss Noah (or Gosling) in unfettered fashion.

McAdams has had many iconic roles, but I couldn't be happier that The Notebookis the one that's stuck with her — stylewise, at least.
