Meghan Trainor Goes Hollywood Glamour Tonight

Ever since first hearing "All About That Bass" on the radio while cruising the delightful boardwalk of the Jersey Shore, I've had conflicting emotions about Meghan Trainor. But Meghan Trainor at the Billboard Music Awards is another story entirely. While the song that arguably gained her something of a claim to fame wasn't as body positive or inclusive as it was supposed to be, and her comments to Fergie at this year's AMAs were plain old disappointing, tonight's ensemble leaves little to be desired.

Nominated for a striking nine awards (Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, Top 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Streaming Song (Or Video), and Billboard Chart Achievement Award), I had something of a hunch that Trainor would have to bring it. I mean, you don't get nominated for NINE awards and not celebrate the occasion with a rad ensemble sure to stay in the sartorial minds of fans and spectators everywhere.

Initially, I was sure that Trainor's flair for cutesy, kitsch, Delia's-esque style would make an appearance. But she's actually gone pretty standard Hollywood glam in a floor-length, dark emerald green gown. It's more Audrey Hepburn than the bubblegum princess persona we've all come to know her for. Some might call the ensemble "boring," but I'm going to go with "classic." Perhaps a sign of new and more sophisticated things to come?

Sure, I do wish Trainor would opt for something as radical on the red carpet as she does in her music videos (shout out to the sequin cat co-ord set), but there's nothing wrong with the more pinup-y look (especially when you throw a thigh-high leg slit into the mix). Provided it's on your own terms, of course, and not down to something you think you're "supposed" to wear if you're a fuller-figured woman... Anyway, vintage lovers of the world rejoice!
