Crayola Wants You To Stop Using These As Makeup

by May Sofi

Another day, another wacky beauty trend. This time, people are using crayola colored pencils as eyeliners in place of traditional makeup. Yes, you read that correctly — girls are dipping their pencils in hot water and drawing lines on their lids. While this may sound like a creative new idea, it turns out it may not actually be safe. Crayola has issued multiple warnings about the potential health risks of applying their product to your face, yet the the trend is only skyrocketing in popularity — so what gives?

In a statement posted to their website, Metro reports that the brand says "Although our products are non toxic, we do not recommend using them to make lipstick, eyeliner or other make up and strongly discourage their use in this manner. They are not designed, tested or approved for this purpose."

Despite the brand's attempts to stop the dangerous makeup craze, many beauty influencers are still advocating it. Beauty blogger Brooke Eve posted a step-by-step tutorial on YouTube, showing exactly how to get the vibrant look. She tells her fans that using the pencils is "100 percent safe" and "it's easy and cheap" according to The Daily Mail. OK, let's not get ahead of ourselves, Brooke.

Another blogger who goes by Rclbeauty101, tells her fans "colored pencils are safe to use on your skin, your face because it's nontoxic. Companies literally make it so that little kids can eat it and be fine." Say what now?! I don't think Crayola has ever said to feed their crayons to your children.

No, you probably won't die from putting colored pencils on your face, but come on guys! Let's do our research. Makeup companies are making colors that are just as cool these days!
