Mouthfeel Is Full of Food Porn & Shirtless Men

by Lindsey Rose Black

Food porn is definitely a thing. And now with the launch of Mouthfeel, a steamy culinary magazine serving up "food through a queer lens," the sexy food industry just got a whole lot hotter (and acquired a glistening six pack). In an interview with New York, Mouthfeel creator Mac Malikowski aims to cut through homophobia in the food industry and expand readers' palates and minds. Oh, and there's some seriously beautiful men licking soft-serve and other yummy things. I'm not complaining.

Malikowski identifies as queer and worked as both a dishwasher and server in Manhattan's trendy Bar Boulud and Momofuku Má Pêche. Beyond sharpening his kitchen skills in each restaurant, he also "learned how to say the word faggot in, like, six different languages.” But instead of hiding his identity, Malikowski turned his hurt into motivation and created an editorial that would end the homophobic hate and start celebrating cooking queers. I'm not gonna lie, he did a ridiculously awesome job.

The print copies of Mouthfeel's inaugural edition have already sold out, but the magazine is fully available online starting today. The "about" page of Mouthfeel is clean and minimalistic, but comes with a definite bite, edge, and confident wit. The mag claims "it's for people with unrestrained appetites for food, men, music and humor ... Not a gay men's Good Housekeeping, it champions the spirit, creativity and counter culture ethos of the world, which has historically defined gay culture and the best of culinary arts."

Going against the grain in another respect, Mouthfeel refuses to follow the "burlap and straw" food porn aesthetic all over Pinterest and blogs. Malikowski explained that he was so over the "farm-scape porn aesthetic that's become pervasive in food media," and chose to create an editorial with "more of a raw, flavorful texture."

Flipping through the first issue, the attention to stylistic detail on every page is incredible. The colors pop, the men are hot, and the recipes are solid. No wonder there aren't any print copies left. Fingers crossed the next issue is just as hot and delicious.
