7 Body Positive Quotes Turned Into Rad Tattoos

by Thalia Ortiz

Sometimes there’s no better way to express yourself than through a tattoo, especially if it's a body positive tattoo. Although getting inked is a commitment to say the least, the results of sporting an amazing tattoo can be absolutely life-changing. Personally, I’m constantly changing my mind and recognize the commitment issues that prevent me from sticking with something for too long — like, you know, a tattoo — but I seriously admire anyone who can get inked and find themselves genuinely at peace with that decision. But IMO, the best types of tattoos are the ones that stay true to who you are and let the world know that you’re happy in your own skin.

Some people, for instance, are bravely sending out an important message by getting inked with body positive quote tattoos. Considering body-shaming is such a prevalent and contemporary issue, it’s refreshing to see people who are confident and comfortable with their bodies sharing their positive outlook with the world.

When you think about it, these folks aren’t holding anything back. They couldn't care less about what others think about their bodies. Don’t get me wrong: I think that in general, tattoos are beautiful and people are free to get whatever they want permanently etched onto their bods. But these empowering body positive tatts are truly special, and worth checking out.

1. Love Yourself

A short quote to say the least, but it’s important nevertheless. Sometimes you can say so much in just a few words, and this tattoo is the perfect example. No matter what personal experiences a person is struggling with, but especially when dealing with those pertaining to body image, loving yourself is the hugely important step one has to undertake when learning acceptance.

2. Still Beautiful

Before seeing this image, I never thought of one's side as a good spot for tattoos — but this piece shows how cool of a placement it can actually be. Instead of trying to conceal their body fat, this person proudly rocks the words “still beautiful” in the best way possible. The sentiment could not be any truer, and it takes guts to be so open when it comes to getting a tattoo. This ink is definitely minimalist but super creative, to say the least.

3. I Am Enough

This tattoo is perfect for anyone who has ever been told that they need to change who they are in order to fit any sort of "ideal" beauty standard. The “I am enough the way I am” message speaks volumes and shows that people do not need to change in ways that they do not see fit, and can live their lives on their own terms. This tattoo is for all of us: We are enough.

4. Live Fat Die Yum

This tatt supports body positivity in the most unapologetic of ways. Instead of letting people make you feel "guilty" for enjoying food, this tattoo shows it’s time to celebrate your penchant for one of the greatest things this universe has to offer.

5. Curves Are Beautiful

Short, straight, and to the point, I absolutely love this tattoo. Whether you’re fuller-figured or straight-size, it’s important to note that all bodies are good bodies. You define who you are, and if curves are a part of you, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be proud of them.

A tattoo like this wouldn’t hurt (figuratively speaking, of course) and looking down at something so empowering every day could be a major confidence booster.

6. Be Kind To Yourself

This person's tattoo creatively incorporates the National Eating Disorder Association’s (NEDA) symbol — in honor of those recovering from an eating disorder — and sends a moving message about body positivity that we can all learn from. Sometimes our own worst critic is ourselves, and we can all stand to be a little more loving and patient with our bodies no matter what we are going through.

7. Confidence Is Beauty

Having confidence in what your body is and what your body isn’t can be difficult at times, but is so rewarding. Being at ease within yourself is one of the most reassuring things you can be. Not only is confidence sexy, it’s super gratifying when you can take a stand against preconceived beauty notions and be your own kind of beautiful — without caring what others think or say. At the end of the day, it’s your body and your rules, and this tattoo is all about that.

No matter what the reason is for getting a tattoo, there’s no denying that it can have an inspiring and powerful impact when shared with others. Conversations about body positivism can start anywhere — even from a seemingly simple message that's beautifully and permanently inked to your bod.
