The Singularity Puts 'The Flash' In Danger

It's well into finale season on TV and despite all of the competition, I think The Flash just won biggest cliffhanger with the final episode of its first season. There was a lot going on throughout the episode, including time travel, and all of it culminated in a giant wormhole threatening Central City with a "singularity." When Barry first came back from his jaunt to the past unscathed, and Eobard Thawne climbed into his vessel ready to return to the future, it seemed like everything just might be OK. Caitlin had turned off the particle accelerator, appearing to stop the wormhole. But something went wrong. The wormhole never stopped and as it began what would lead to the destruction of not only Central City, but the entire world, Barry realized he had to run opposite its force to stop it. The episode ended before we saw if he was successful, so could the Flash die trying to stop the end of the world?

It may not seem likely, considering the very title of the show is The Flash, but thanks to all of the time travel and alternate timelines, anything is possible. Barry could appear to die and be sucked into the wormhole, but actually be alive, just in another universe. Or he could die in the process of stopping the singularity, only for the S.T.A.R. Labs team to figure out another way to go back in time and prevent his death. Or he could live and save the world, making for a joyous start to Season 2. Honestly, that last happy ending is probably the least likely, and The Flash fans should be thrilled regardless.

The introduction of time travel to The Flash world has only made things more exciting and this cliffhanger only proves that. How many shows have the opportunity to put their main character in such a perilous situation and resolve in a way that not only makes sense, but just amps up the energy for its next season? Just like it has so many times before, The Flash used its finale to prove that it's not like any other show on TV, in all of the best ways.
