5 Hacks For Flawless, Second Day Hair

by Emily McClure

Let's be honest: That 'do you just did was hard work, but making it last will be even harder. Second day hairstyles can be very tricky to pull off. How do you make those waves stay so effortlessly? How do you keep that blowout looking sleek and fresh? For some seriously #blessed women, it's not a problem. For the rest of us, we have to work to keep our hairdo's looking amazing for days on end.

Hair is a tricky thing. It has a mind of it's own, and reacts to almost anything. In order to keep your hard earned style looking its best, you have to outsmart your hair. What's your natural texture? How does it react to heat and humidity? Any little thing can ruin a hairstyle, so keep these things in mind when trying to save it for another day.

Not only is the hairstyle important to keep in mind, but also the elements of the hairstyle that you want specifically. Do you want springy curls or more beach waves? Do you want the volume or the sleekness to be the lasting part of your blowout? How about both? These are the things you want to think about when prepping for day two hair. This is 'do or die, but here are a couple general tricks to keeping those strands looking amazing.

1. Silk or Satin Scarves

Silk and satin are beautiful fabrics that will keep frizz and static at bay. Whether it's an updo or loose waves, wrapping a scarf around your hairstyle before you fall asleep can prevent frizz and keep your 'do intact.

2. Dryer Sheets

Looking to keep your blowout sleek and without frizz? Attach a few dryer sheets with bobby pins around your hair part to keep it flat and static free overnight. Run a flat-iron through your ends in the morning, and you'll be good to go!

3. Steam

Have naturally bouncy curls? Bring them back to life by taking a steamy shower — but don't get your hair wet. Washing every day can dry out curls, but a bit of steam helps ringlets reform. Add a little styling gel post-shower to maintain moisture and shine.

4. Bobby pins

Want to keep your curls looking perfect the next day? Take a tip from old Hollywood actresses. In order to keep your hair looking perfectly quaffed, wrap the curl into a spiral and pin against your scalp with bobby pins. Doing this all over will create the perfect day-two pin curls.

5. Top Knot

For next day beachy waves, wrap your hair into a spiral on the top of your head. Use a ribbon or a fabric-covered elastic to avoid tangles and snags in your hair. Shake it out in the morning, and add a little texturizing beach spray to tame frizz. No one will know you skipped the shower!
