What Does "Squad Goals" Mean?

by Mikaela Gilbert-Lurie

Everyone has a different name for that group of friends you do everything with. It's the group that you got matching charm bracelets with in third grade, or the crew that meets up constantly at Central Perk and where inexplicably none of you have jobs that require you to do anything but hang out and drink coffee (I have opinions about Friends, OK?). Unfortunately, if you're still captioning your photos "ain't nobody fresher than my clique," you're behind the times, because a group of friends is called a squad now (as seen in the phrase: squad deep, when your whole crew is together). Squads, of course, have goals... but what exactly are squad goals? Fret not — here's everything you need to know about them.

So, what are squad goals, then? Well, there's no official definition for it (yet), but here's mine:

Squad Goal (skwäd/ɡōl) (noun) (plural noun: squad goals): an aspirational term for what you'd like your group of friends to be or accomplish.

Your squad goals are entirely dependent on the members of your squad; so, while some people's squad goals involve looking like the celebs in the famous Ellen selfie, others might involve reading every Jane Austen book in the NY Public Library. Much like eating a Reese's, there is no wrong way to squad goal.

Need a little help coming up with a few? Here are some of great squad goals to aspire to:

1. Cats With Buckets On Their Heads

#SquadGoals.

2. Globo Gym Purple Cobras

Definite Squad Goals.

3. Pizza

Pizza is forever my only goal, squad or otherwise.

4. Kardashians/Mean Girls

YAAAS SQUAD GOALS.

5. Human Bouncy Balls

Look, I don't know what's happening here, but it for sure qualifies as #SquadGoals.
