13 Love Songs That Are Actually So Creepy

by Anna Klassen

There's nothing more romantic than a love song. And luckily, there are many to choose from. There are even love songs written about love songs, like Selena Gomez's "Love You Like A Love Song," or the less contemporary, "Your Song" by Elton John. Love songs have one thing in common; Whether they are over the top syrupy or under the radar swoon-worthy, love songs ooze sweet sentiments. But some love songs audiences have grown to love might not be as peachy keen as originally comprehended. Some love songs are downright creepy.

Take, for example, the commonly criticized love song, "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Lead singer Sting wrote and performed the song, which from the lyrics, appears to be essentially about stalking someone. The singer told The Independent of the track: "It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn't realize at the time how sinister it is."

There's even a cover of the song that takes the original lyrics and changes the track's major key to minor, making it all the more creepy. But Sting's shiver-inducing track is just one "love" song that is actually pretty eerie. Here are 13 tracks, Sting's included, that are creepier than you ever realized.
