What Do We Know About Daron Dylon Wint?

Washington D.C. police identified 34-year old Daron Dylon Wint as suspect in the murder of the Savopoulos family and their housekeeper, according to The Washington Post. What do we know about Daron Dylon Wint? Wint has emerged as the only suspect in a quadruple homicide, arson, and robbery that occurred last week. Businessman Savvas Savopoulos, 46; his wife, Amy Savopoulos, 47; their 10-year-old son, Philip; and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57, were found beaten and stabbed to death in the Savopoulos home in Washington, D.C.

In a press conference on Thursday, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Wint likely took a bus to New York City from D.C., and is expected to be in Brooklyn. Lanier asked anyone who spotted Wint to call 911. “We have a person who’s wanted for horrible murders," Lanier said. "I’m not going to say he’s not dangerous." CNN reported that Wint met briefly with his girlfriend in Brooklyn, who told detectives that Wint was planning to turn himself in.

Wint has a criminal history that includes charges of sexual assault, carrying concealed weapons and theft. According to myFoxDC, he has three assault convictions that date back to 2007 in Oswego, New York, as well as an outstanding arrest warrant for criminal contempt for violating an order of protection in a case that involved a former girlfriend. The Associated Press reported that Wint was convicted of second-degree assault in Maryland in 2009 and pleaded guilty in 2010 to malicious destruction of property.

Wint, a certified welder, is believed to have been an employee at American Ironworks, a company of which Savopoulos served as CEO, according to the AP. He graduated from Parkdale High School in Riverdale, Maryland in 1996 and Prince George’s Community College in 2002, according to his Facebook page, and was born in Guyana according to the AP.

Jarred Brooks, a neighbor of the suspect’s father, told The Daily Mail that he saw Wint a day after the incident sitting on the steps of his father’s house in Lanham, Maryland. Brooks described him as a “big guy” and “very strong.” While Brooks said he had never met Wint personally, he spoke well of his father.

“I don't know him personally or what he does for a living. But his father is hard working. They are a good family. He doesn't live here but he comes to visit often. He would come over in the summer and sit on the steps all day,” Brooks told The Daily Mail.
