11 Red Carpet-Ready Oscar de la Renta Dresses

by Rosie Narasaki

Is there anything more glorious than an Oscar de la Renta runway show? I don't think so. Dior may have shows set in the South of France with pétanque to spare, and Chanel may have feminist protests in Paris, but there's just no beating the jewel-toned resplendence that you'll find at a de la Renta show — and the Oscar de la Renta Resort 2016 presentation is no exception.

The recent runway show marks Peter Copping's third show with the brand (he took over the reigns from the late Mr. de la Renta himself, who passed away last year), and it seems that he's settling in quite nicely. Copping's latest collection retains de la Renta's sense of drama (there's a bright blue ruffled ball gown that's especially de la Renta-esque), but adds in his own spin — as he said to Style.com, "I feel quite at home, I have to say."

The resort collection is so colorfully elegant that I'm sure we'll be seeing pretty much every piece at some point, at the front row of the next show, at a Cannes photo call, ( a la Emma Stone), or at a premiere, but here are 11 pieces that absolutely belong on the red carpet.

1. This Bright Blue Dress

It's like the prom dress of your wildest dreams.

2. This Color-Blocked Showstopper

Elegance with a twist.

3 and 4. These Two Embellished Dresses

The blue and gold embroidery is pitch-perfect on the right dress, and the left dresses' mega train is glorious (also, I'm loving the flat sandals/ball gown combo).

5. This Siren Red Number

It's kind of a fool-proof red carpet winner, no?

6. This Sequin-y Black Ball Gown

Taylor Swift's next major gown, yes or yes?

7, 8, and 9. These Three Embroidered Dresses

The center dress in particular would look spectacular on a sunny red carpet.

10. This Pink and Teal Showstopper

It's like a high-fashion take on The Little Mermaid!

11. This Floral Number

I think I spy a future Emmys dress...

Basically, the whole Oscar de la Renta Resort 2016 was a big bowl of eye-candy — so let's hope we see more of it soon!
