22 Floral Tattoos That Are Anything But Ordinary

by Amy Roberts

There's a reason that flower tattoos designs have always been some of the most popular art to get inked. The versatile flower tattoo is something that just about anyone can appreciate, and whether it's your first tattoo or an addition to an ever-growing collection, it's something that you're sure to always love.

"A lot of clients think of flowers as basic, over-done designs when they first come in," says Nashville-based tattoo artist Mia Graffam of Victory Tattoo. "But the great thing about floral tattoos is that you could do a million of them and still make each one different." From bright, splashy watercolors that are popular with more modern artists to traditional Sailor Jerry-style flower designs, the good old-fashioned flower tattoo might be worth a second look. All it takes is a clear vision for what style of tattoo you want.

"Some of my tattoos are illustrative botanical designs or bold, American traditional roses and Forget-Me-Nots," Graffam says. "These can come across as a very graphic, strong style, but it's also timeless. Another popular thing I'm seeing lately is flower arrangements; flowers in vases or urns or rosebuds being held in hands."

If you're looking for something a bit more minimalist or delicately detailed, Graffam also recommends the finely-dotted flower designs that are gaining popularity at tattoo shops around the world. "Fine-line tattoos and stippling are also at the forefront right now when approaching floral designs." Stippling involves using tiny dots instead of more traditional shading in a tattoo, creating a uniquely textured effect.

If you're thinking about going for a flower tattoo but you aren't sure which style is right for you, these gorgeous — and entirely unique — designs are sure to give you just the inspiration you need.
