You Can Actually Buy A Ramen Donut Now

by Mikaela Gilbert-Lurie

If you're one of the lucky (or unlucky?) people who lives in or near Orange County, California, you can get yourself Ramen Donut, aka a "ramnut." That's right, ladies and gentlemen: This culinary hybrid, which is equal parts fascinatingly innovative and monstrously horrifying, will officially be available for purchase at the OC Night Market from June 5 to 7. Best news ever? Nightmarish sign of the apocalypse? You decide!

The first time we covered the monstrosity that is the ramnut, we mentioned that its only saving grace was that it was more of a hypothetical thought experiment than an actual reality. The Ramnut was designed by Josh Scherer of "Culinary Bro-Down" (if the thought of consuming a ramen-donut hybrid isn't enough to nauseate you then maybe that name is), and is made of horchata-soaked ramen that has been deep fried, stuffed with cream cheese, and then dusted with powdered sugar. Uh... yum? I suppose at least it's not too far off from noodle kugel, right?

The ramnut comes in a variety of flavor options, with a choice between chocolate or vanilla cream fillings and chocolate, cream cheese, or strawberry frosting. There's a part of me that wants to try them for the same reason I want to try anything I think I'll hate: I want to have done it, but I don't want to do it. It's quite the catch-22.

I'll tell you a secret, though: What I really want is for Mitt Romney to come out in support of the ramnut and change the name to "Romnunt."
