ATC's Chrissy Costanza Is A Style Icon On the Rise

by Julia Guerra

I’ve been following YouTube sensation Against the Current since their channel got its kick start in 2012 when the band released their first original track “Thinking.” I’m basically as loyal a fan as they come, anxiously awaiting each new cover or original song they release, and once they were signed by record label Fueled by Ramen in March, I made a Facebook status expressing my immense excitement for them.

While their skyrocketing musical talent is what keeps their songs playing on an infinite repeat, it definitely helps that lead singer Chrissy Costanza not only has pipes of steel, but is also quite the style icon.

The singer's style has dramatically transformed from her casual, singing-in-the-garage stage to now as she and her band mates travel the world, but it didn't matter if she was sporting a polo and jeans or a tube top romper or whether her accessorized ranged from choker necklace to delicate rings. Without fail, there has been at least one element in each ensemble she's been shot wearing that I felt I had to have in my wardrobe. I definitely should have asked her where she shopped when I met her during a VIP backstage meet and greet. Then again, I was too star struck to barely piped out “I love you!” Sorry about that, Chrissy. I promise I am not a creeper.

While Against the Current continues to produce their music, Chrissy Costanza continues to develop as an up-and-coming fashion icon you'll want to look out for in the music industry. And while you've racked up 675K Instagram followers who obsess over your style and immaculate vocals, just know that I was there from the beginning, Costanza.

Check out 9 times we all should have been taking style cues from Chrissy Costanza. No worries guys, there's still time.

1. Varsity Cardigan

When first introduced to Chrissy Costanza, I wouldn't have labeled her as a particularly preppy person, but she did incorporate preppy elements into her wardrobe. During ATC's cover of "All I Want For Christmas Is You," she sports a red varsity cardigan paired with a white polo and black jeans, giving her basic shirt and pant combo a hint of character.

2. Sheer White Polka Dot Blouse

What I admire most about Costanza is that she doesn't have to go all out to be gorgeous. Sometimes, less really is more and there is beauty in simplicity. Covering "Red" by Taylor Swift, a classic sheer blouse with red polka dots was seemed all-too fitting.

3. Black and White Colorblock Blouse

Colorblock blouses are very on-trend at the moment, and while we all play catch up, Costanza was ahead of the game during her cover of "Chocolate" by The 1975 circa 2013.

4. Sweater and Graphic Tee Combo

There's no need to over dress when you're chillin' with friends — especially if you're just going to serenade a microphone with Taylor Swift's breakup ballad "All Too Well."

5. The Denim Jacket

If anyone can bring back denim jacks and vests, its Costanza. If you're reading this, Chrissy, I encourage it.

6. Denim Army Jacket

The first thing I noticed in ATC's acoustic cover of 5 Seconds of Summer's "She Looks So Perfect," besides her angelic vocals was her green denim army jacket. You can wear it with a dress, or you could pair it with shorts and a tee. It is the perfect piece to mix and match with. You can also get a little crafty and stitch on some awesome patches to make it look authentic.

7. Tube Top Romper

Chrissy Costanza debuted her girly-yet-edgy persona in her cover of Paramore's "Aint it Fun" video and I basically love every part of it.

8. Leather Tops

Nothing says rock star like leather, and Costanza is on the rise.

9. Stripes and Leather

Ultimately, she's bringing leather back and I'm all for it. Throwing a leather jacket over a simple crop top or dress can easily make an outfit rise for drab to fab.
