Get Your 'GoT' On In House Sigil Inspired Makeup

After recently watching Kit Harington (AKA Jon Snow) singing his Wildling version of The Troggs' "Wild Thing" to a beaming Ygritte, I have been trying to come up with an excuse to turn up at his house and persuade him to run away with me. First I thought maybe he'd like a gift of a direwolf pup or a new black cape, but then I had an epiphany: I could "woo" him in Game of Thrones inspired makeup.

Of course, how could I forget that GoT makeup looks ignite a fire in a man's soul, which make him want to leave his celebrity life, get a new identity, and flee the country with an odd, young woman? Silly me!

All joking aside (I wasn't joking) I have wanted to try this for quite some time. As a huge fan of Game of Thrones, I often think I have my favorite house down to a T and then WHAM! — something huge happens and my favorite house is a mystery again.

I admire the loyalty and honor of the Starks, the bravery and inspiration of the Targaryens, and the sharp, witty tongues of the Tyrells. So I created makeup looks inspired by all three. Spoiler alert: If you get to Mr. Snow before me, I will take what is mine with fire and blood, in true Targaryen fashion.

Before

I prepared my skin to be transformed into a Westerosi woman. I moisturized with Nivea, applied Bourjouis Healthy Mix Foundation in “Vanilla,” and brushed on my Bourjois blush in “Rose Frisson" to give my tremendously pale skin a bit of color.

1. The House Tyrell Look

House Tyrell's sigil is a golden rose on a green field and their motto is "Growing Strong." They are a very powerful house in Westeros and Margaery has clawed her way through the ranks to become queen. I wanted to reflect Margaery's glamour while also staying true to the house sigil. Margaery's grandmother Olenna Tyrell is known by another name "The Queen of Thorns" so I also wanted to incorporate this idea into the look.

I started off by accentuating my small, barely there eyebrows by pencilling them in. I used a cheap and cheerful Colorsport 24 Hour Eyeliner in a brown shade with a felt tip pen style nib.

As one of the predominant House Tyrell colors is gold and Margaery is married to King Tommen Baratheon — whose house colors also include gold — I thought it best to choose a majestic golden eyeshadow. I used a L’Oréal Paris Color Riche eyeshadow in “Nude” but any golden hued eyeshadow would do the trick.

I then applied a feminine, sweeping flick to each eye with a Body Collection black liquid eyeliner. This was to emphasize the glamour of the Tyrells.

After this I framed my eyes by pencilling a third of the way across my bottom lashes with a thrifty Laval kohl eyeliner.

I completed my eyes with a coating of Lush "Eyes Right" mascara.

To finish I decided to draw an intricate vine with thorns on it to symbolize the power of matriarch Olenna Tyrell. Obviously if you know any artists or anyone who's great at drawing, ask them if they can help you with this part because it's much trickier than it looks! To do this I used my brown eyeliner pen.

2. The House Stark Style

House Stark are the underdogs (excuse the pun) of Westeros. They have been through so many terrible things yet they never give up fighting for what's right. The sigil of House Stark traditionally contains a grey direwolf on a white field.

To begin I wanted to channel the grey color of the House Stark sigil so I used this silvery grey Bourjois Ombre à Paupières eyeshadow in “Argent."

Next I used my aforementioned brown eyeliner to create wolfy eyebrows inspired by the Starks' direwolves.

I lined my eyes with the previously mentioned black kohl eyeliner to make them stand out as I felt they were getting a bit lost underneath the bushy eyebrows.

To conclude this look I gave myself a pair of jet black lips as a nod to Jon Snow who recently became the Lord Commander of The Night's Watch. Unfortunately, I didn't have any black lipstick so I improvised and used my kohl eyeliner instead. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you are prone to allergic reactions or your eyeliner isn't safe to use elsewhere on your face.

3. The House Targaryen Look

Daenerys Targaryen, the last surviving Targaryen of a house steeped in history, is my favorite 'Thrones femme. She is independent, compassionate, and brave and she makes one heck of a ruler. She can withstand fire and she basically birthed three dragons. Daenerys is epic.

I wanted to create a look inspired by dragon fire so I began by using a yellow Barry M Dazzle Dust, which I swept from the corner of my eyelid to about halfway across.

After this I grabbed my trusty Technic “Brights Eyeshadows” palette and used the red shade to create flame-like eyelids. I started at the outside, creating a point like the tip of a flame and then worked my way in, blending as I went along. The blending method helped me to achieve the orange shades where the two eyeshadows met.

I added a strong, black brow to symbolize the strength of House Targaryen and to make a nod towards the black background used in the house sigil.

I added a layer of Lush mascara to open my eyes and add a feminine touch to the look because although Daenerys is strong, she also dresses in a feminine way.

Next I applied a blood red lipstick to make a reference to the House Targaryen motto: "Fire and Blood." I used my Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in “Diva Red” but feel free to use a shade of your choice that fits the motto.

I wanted to add a bit more "fire" to this look to symbolize the idea that Daenerys is fire-proof. Thus, I added the aforementioned yellow dust to my cheeks as if it were blusher.

This is my mean Targaryen glare so beware and keep your mitts off Jon Snow, ladies! Or you'll be dragon food quicker than you can say "Khaleesi."
