2 Indie Deities Team Up For An Unexpected Project

by Kristie Rohwedder

In a TV spot for the 2015 Ford Focus, a red sedan hams it up in front of the cameras, showing off its pristine hubcaps and dust-free dashboard. But the sedan will not sit still. It has to run free, like a wild, cherry-colored stallion. It must hit the roads. It must go. Fittingly, the song in the 2015 Ford Focus ad is “GO!” by Santigold featuring Karen O.

"GO!" track number one on 2012’s Master of My Make-Believe, Santigold’s sophomore album. The pairing of Santigold and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman is two-thirds of the indie goddess trio of my dreams (the third third would be Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan, duh), so yes, I did gasp one million gasps the first time I heard “GO!”. As the Spirit Music Group website points out, the track also features Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s on guitar and was produced by Q-Tip and Switch. Uh, is that a roster, or is that a roster?

If you like objectively great, high-energy music that makes you feel like you could run 100 miles without stopping to catch your breath/without stopping to collapse on the cement/without stopping to explode, this is the song for you:
