Try Your Hand At These 7 Fun Blush Looks

by Jodie Layne

It looks like a lot of you are planning on getting your glow on this summer — WWD reports that blush is trending and sales have increased by 3 percent over the last quarter. Humans loved intricate nail art for what seems like forever before moving on to playing with multi-toned and ombré lips. We've experimented with purposefully clumpy eyelashes, contoured our faces, and colorfully dyed our eyebrows. So is it finally our cheeks' time to shine? Is artfully applied blush going to be the standout beauty trend of summer 2015?

If you ask me, we should totally embrace some more playful makeup looks for cheeks rather than a simple pop of natural-looking flush or a swipe of bronzer below our cheekbone. We're not afraid of a little color elsewhere on our faces, after all! Let's do this: Let's make 2015 the summer of the cheeks and go for a little more creativity when it comes to applying blush. Thanks to indie makeup brands making non-traditional colors, there's pretty much every shade you can imagine available. Why stick to one or two?

If you're bored of having a simple, tasteful, peachy, coral dusting on the apples of your cheeks, here are seven blush looks to inspire your beauty routine this summer that are a little more outrageous:

1. Sunny Side Up

This look from Marni's 2008 fashion show uses an unexpected color and placement for a blush look that's definitely different.

2. Brick House

This strong, broad, brick red cheekbone look is definitely mighty, mighty.

3. Rosy Contour

Blend a cheekbone-illuminating red above and below a contouring bronze for a defined cheekbone that's a little something different.

4. Sailor Half Moon

This peachy-beige might be expected, but its placement sure isn't! Instead of highlighter, use a heavy hand applying your blush.

5. Citrus Slice

OK, so maybe this isn't what you want to wear to the office — but the orange and yellow blush and eyeshadow play so well together here.

6. Ice Queen

Not getting a tan this summer? Try a grey/maroon contour for a haute take.

7. Graphic Art

Get graphic on one or both sides of your face with this artistic take on cheek adornment. Super fun for a night out!
