Zac Posen Dominated the Red Carpet at the Tony's

by Rosie Narasaki

The American Theatre Wing Tony Awards last night were unmissable for a lot of reasons, but thanks to Zac Posen and others (mostly Zac Posen) the fashion of the evening was definitely a big part of that. Award shows and galas all have their own personality, and the Tony Awards have always swung (rather appropriately, given the honorees/attendees) towards the showstoppingly dramatic. All of this makes for an extremely fashionable red carpet, to say the very least. This year was, if possible, even more stylish than usual, thanks to the influence of Anna Wintour (she totally banned fishtail gowns, guys). Yes, there were a lot of great looks at the show, but the real style star of the night was undoubtedly Zac Posen.

Some of the biggest celebrities and nominees of the night wore the designer, to devastatingly fabulous effect: Co-MC Kristin Chenoweth wore one of Posen's spangliest second-skin drama-infused dresses ever, while (Best Featured Actress in a Play winner) Annaleigh Ashford accepted her trophy in a laid-back spring green ball gown. Oh, and veritable legend Bernadette Peters wore the brand as well — she too went with a seasonally-appropriate shade of green, though her well-fitted number had a column silhouette, as opposed to Ashford's more voluminous dress.

Let's take a look!

Uh oh. Don't tell Anna Wintour, but it looks like Bernadette went with a fishtail hem — at least it didn't have sequins! And hey, if anyone can rock mermaid-y formalwear, it's Bernadette Peters.

The color's magic on her, and I'm loving the whole off-beat prom vibe.
