The New 'Mockingjay' Trailer is Heartbreaking

by Nicole Pomarico

After being left with a terrifying shot of a hijacked Peeta at the end of Mockingjay, Part 1, the moment we've spent seven months waiting for is finally here. On Tuesday, the Mockingjay, Part 2 trailer was released into the world, offering up the first glimpse of the conclusion to The Hunger Games series. Aside from the fact that I have yet to process my emotions that this is the last time we get to see Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, it's heartbreaking for so many reasons — mostly because I know what happens to these characters in the end. If you've read the books and aren't just a fan of the movies, a lot of the moments in the trailer were probably heartbreaking for you, too. How could these people be so happy when such a terrible fate is in the cards for so many of them?!

Unfortunately, Mockingjay, Part 2 is likely going to be a huge bummer. Although there's a "happy" ending, a lot of what happens is super depressing, and it's hard to be aware of that while watching certain scenes in the trailer. I have a feeling plenty of crying will be done in the theaters come November, so prepare for a lot of emotional popcorn eating — especially once we see what happens after the few happy moments are in the past.

Warning: If you haven't read the books, you might want to skip over the next part. There are major spoilers in your future.

Finnick and Annie's Wedding

I don't care what you think about the Peeta/Katniss/Gale "love triangle" — the true, pure, beautiful love story in this series is obviously between Finnick and Annie. It's amazing to see that they get their happy ending... but not for long. Not only have these people been through a lot in their short lives, but Finnick ends up dying while defending Panem, leaving Annie to raise their child on her own. But, um, yeah, enjoy that wedding.

And Everyone At Finnick And Annie's Wedding

Literally everyone in District 13 is celebrating in this trailer, and they have no idea what's going to happen next. Even if they survive the rebellion, the future is obviously pretty bleak.

Prim Is Super Happy

She's smiling and dancing with Katniss... and little does she (or her sister) know that she's going to die soon. As rough as the other deaths in the series were, Prim's is the one that hit me the hardest, and I'm dreading seeing it on screen.

Effie's All Fancy Again

Oh, Effie. You may be fancy now, but after the Capitol's destroyed, I have no idea where you're going to buy makeup and extravagant clothes.

Finnick's Extreme Determination

He's SO READY for this rebellion and to create a life and a future for him and Annie where they don't have to live in fear. Unfortunately, Finnick isn't going to live long enough to see that happen, and now, I'm going to cry for the rest of my life.

Gale's Obliviousness

Gale, I am so sorry, but you are about to be edged out by Peeta. In the end of the book, Katniss and Peeta are married with children. Our dear, good looking friend is in for a world of emotional pain.
