What Happened To Marta On 'Stitchers'?

by Keertana Sastry

There's only been two episodes of ABC Family's new show, Stitchers, but things are already getting crazy. On Tuesday night's episode "Friends In Low Places," we finally found out what happened to Marta on Stitchers. For those who may not remember the pilot, Cameron talked about how Marta "couldn't handle" the program and had to be replaced by Kirsten, but we never really knew where Marta ended up... Until Cameron visited her in the hospital, that is. A quick flashback made it seem like Marta Rodriguez reacted badly to a stitch and it messed with her brain in some way. So why is Marta in a coma? What went wrong on the job? (And, should Kirsten be worried? Because probably, yes.)

From what I can gather from the next few episodes, it looks like Marta may have gotten too emotionally connected with the person whose memories she was stitching into at the time. In fact check out the synopsis for Episode 3, "Connections."

"When a murky stitch doesn't give enough evidence against a newlywed husband accused of killing his wife, Kirsten attempts to prove her strong feelings about his guilt. This effect on Kirsten, brought about by residual emotion from the stitch, makes Cameron worry that she will end up like Marta.

Episode 4 of the show, "I See You," will give us a little more insight into the details of Marta's "disastrous" stitch, but I feel like there's more than meets the eye with Marta's accident than just her getting too emotional during the stitch.

What if someone messed with Marta's mind or with the stitch before Marta went into it? If that's possible, my guess for the sabotage culprit is Maggie. There's something about her I just don't trust. Maybe it's because I agree with Kirsten and think that Maggie intentionally ran out the clock so Kirsten couldn't stitch into Ed and find out who killed him. (There's just no way he committed suicide.)

And, here's another question: Why does Cameron care so much about Marta? Is he just being a good colleague and friend by visiting her, or was there some kind of romance between the two? Until I see proof of Maggie or Linus going to visit Marta as well, I'm going to believe that Marta and Cameron had some kind of secret connection. Maybe it's as simple as the two of them were dating, or maybe Cameron and Marta were getting close to solving a mystery, and now he feels guilty that Marta was hurt over it. The synopsis for Episode 4 revolves around Cameron's neighbor who was shot and killed, and the stitcher team thinks the bullet may have been meant for Cameron. So, perhaps the conspiracy is real, and now Cameron is in just as much danger as Marta was. If this is the path the show takes, I definitely can't wait to see how all this unfolds.
