Oh, Snap! Hillary Clinton's Most '90s Quotes

The '90s and Hillary Clinton, two great subjects. I can just hear the music, "These are a few of my favorite things" playing in your head now. You might be ready for Hillary, but are you ready for a blast from the past? These Hillary Clinton quotes are so '90s, they'll have you feeling nostalgic for the days of pagers and Game Boys.

In the the era of the Furby, giant cellphones, a golden age of Disney films, and The Spice Girls, Clinton was hard at work. In 1991 she was honored as part of National Law Journal's 100 most influential lawyers in America. In 1992, Bill Clinton was elected as the 42nd president of the United States and she served as first lady, working for issues like women's rights, welfare, and children's health. Then, in 1998, she had to deal with her husband's cheating scandal. So, naturally, Clinton could have had a lot to say in the '90s and about the '90s. But last June, in an interview with Diane Sawyer, Clinton said:

I am not going to comment on what I did or did not say back in the late '90s.

Yes, this was in context of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Sure, Clinton might not want to comment on what she said in the 1990s, but we will. How could we not? Here are four of the most '90s Clinton quotes — as well as her most '90s moment.

"I wish I had some stock in a scrunchie company."

In Clinton's book Hard Choices, she admits that she thought about renaming her book The Scrunchie Chronicles in reference to the backlash she encountered when she tied her hair up while working in politics. The scrunchie became part of Clinton's signature look, which she jokes in an interview with the The Guardian made the fashion item more popular.

"People organized marches through flyers and word of mouth and used dial-up modems and fax machines to communicate with the world."

In her 2011 speech entitled "Internet Rights & Wrongs: Choices and Challenges in a Networked World," Clinton talks about the role of technology in the pro-democracy movement in the Middle East. Modems and fax machines, staples of the '90s office. Have you seen Office Space? (Note: If the answer is no, you should change that.)

"I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession which I entered before my husband was in public life."

Clinton explained in an 1992 interview with Nightline that she decided to keep her job at a law firm while Bill served as governor. OK — so I admit this quote isn't really HRC commenting on the '90s, but an article with the words "'90s," "quotes," and "Hillary Clinton," would simply not be complete without her quintessential quote of the '90s. Although criticized by some as degrading the homemaker role, this quote shows her demanding respect in her choice to remain a high-powered working woman.

"And, when you're knocked down, get right back up and never listen to anyone who says you can't or shouldn't go on."

It might have been way after the '90s, but Clinton subconsciously channeled Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping" during her 2008 speech suspending her campaign and endorsing Barack Obama for the presidency. Remember that? "I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down."

Bonus: She Played Game Boy

This last photo is so '90s it doesn't even need a quote. Clinton told TIME in 1997 that she started playing the Game Boy and reading Internet E-Mail for Dummies to overcome her fear of computers.
