Two Buses Have Crashed Inside Lincoln Tunnel

by Alicia Lu

On Wednesday morning, two buses collided inside Lincoln Tunnel in New York City, injuring at least 18 people, according to the Associated Press. Port Authority sources told NBC New York that the incident occurred when a New Jersey Transit bus rear-ended a privately owned bus in the Manhattan-bound center tube. Traffic delays were expected to last over an hour. Victims were seen being carried out of the tunnel on stretchers while some were able to walk out, but the extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

After the crash occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, NBC New York's Chopper 4 reported seeing several vehicles backing out of the tunnel's center tube in reverse as authorities redirected Manhattan-bound traffic to the south tube. Multiple people have been taken to nearby hospitals as FDNY crews continue to evacuate the injured.

According to NBC New York, one woman was seen being escorted out of the tunnel by rescue workers unable to walk on her own, while another woman was seen walking out with her hand over her heart. Another source told the outlet that one woman inside the tunnel was in labor and was stuck in a car behind one of the buses that crashed.

As a result of the accident, the center tube is now closed and traffic delays are expected to last up to 90 minutes. Take a look at the ongoing scene below.
