Katy Perry Rocks Moschino's New Ad Campaign

by Tyler Atwood

When evaluated on their individual merits, Katy Perry and Moschino designer Jeremy Scott are each creative powerhouses who deserve major recognition for their idiosyncratic, artistic contributions. Together, the twosome is a dream team. Perry posted her premiere Moschino advertising image on Instagram on Wednesday, and the image, portraying an ultra-confident Perry, is exactly what fashion industry followers hoped for. Replete with bling and distressed denim, the image is the epitome of high-low fashion, amplified for greater drama.

After Perry hit the 2015 Met Ball red carpet in a graffitied Moschino gown designed by Scott, the question of a collaboration became when rather than if such a fusion would occur. Both devotees of unorthodox work, Perry and Scott are in many ways a perfect aesthetic match. And true to form, the Fall 2015 Moschino campaign created by the roguish team is delightfully playful. The images were photographed by fashion industry-favored duo Inez Van Lambsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, whose creative endeavors can be found in the pages of Love magazine, Vogue, and T magazine as well as multiple high profile fashion campaigns from Dior to Louis Vuitton. How do Moschino and Katy Perry fans adore the new campaign? Let me count the ways.

1. Perry And Scott Are Simpatico In Their Eccentricity

Who better to represent a brand known for its Barbie-inspired runways than a woman who sports candy and sweets on her person for every other concert?

2. The Bling Is Blinding

It would be physically impossible to cram more gilded accents onto Perry's ensemble without risking bling-related temporary blindness

3. The Ad Harkens A New Devotion To Denim Jackets

If Moschino and Perry are in favor of a distressed denim jacket, who am I to demur?

4. Perry's Pixie Is The Stuff Of Dreams

Tousled and cropped, Katy Perry's 'do is simply perfection.

5. The Ensemble Is '80s-Esque In The Best Way

A chain link belt and a jacket with shoulder pads? Done and done.

6. The Campaign Showcases Perry's Curves

Perry is well-known for celebrating her natural curves and muscular physique, which are beautifully front and center in Moschino's campaign.

7. The Makeup Isn't Overwhelming

An advertising image that actually resembles the celebrity photographed is more difficult to find than one might imagine, but Perry's minimalist makeup allows the star's natural radiance to take precedence over cosmetics.
