Will B.D. Wong Be In 'Jurassic Park 2'?

by Rachel Simon

When the first Jurassic Park came out back in 1993, a ton of attention went to the movie's stars: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum — even the terrifying velociraptors were showered with praise. Yet while those individuals certainly deserved getting noticed, many of the movie's supporting characters were overshadowed, as a result, from Samuel L. Jackson's chief engineer to the geneticist responsible for the dinosaurs' revival, B.D. Wong's Dr. Henry Wu. While Jackson didn't return for this month's Jurassic World, Wong did — and fortunately, his character gets way more attention than in the first film, where he had just one scene. So, with such an expanded role, will B.D. Wong be in Jurassic World 2 , reprising his role as the mad scientist?

Unfortunately, there's no telling just yet. (Spoilers ahead!) Yet in Jurassic World, Wong's character, Dr. Wu, survives the events of the dino-pocalypse (is that a thing?), so his return is definitely plausible — it's just a question of if Jurassic World sequels are truly happening, and if so, whether Wong agrees to play his famous part again.

Here's hoping the actor says yes, because there's a lot that could be done with his character that'd make for highly entertaining sequels. As we learn in the film, Dr. Wu's plans for his dinosaur creations are dark and twisty, far from just suplying the theme park. He hopes to militarize the animals, and is working with an equally shady character, Hoskins, to make his plans a reality. This is a storyline that could easily continue in future films, as every action movie worth its while needs a good villain, right?

And it's certainly possible; after all, Wong was the only original Jurassic Park cast member to be cast in World, so clearly, the filmmakers think highly of him. Explained director Colin Trevorrow in an interview with IGN last year,

"He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story."

If all goes well (meaning: Jurassic World takes in as much money as expected), that story should definitely get a chance to continue. As for Wong, he should have the time; after a long-running stint on Law & Order that ended in 2014, he's worked sporadically in movies and TV, and so it's likely he'd be able to take on another Jurassic role — and hopefully, it'll involve a lot more than just one scene.
