Rewatch These 'OITNB' Episodes Before Season 3

by Emily Lackey

The countdown to the Season 3 premiere of Orange is the New Black is officially drawing to a close, and I honestly don’t know what to do with myself because I'm so excited. I can tell you what I have been doing with my time, though, and that is reading article after article speculating on what will happen on the new season. However satisfying it may be for the moment, it's nothing compared to the prospect of Season 3 being released in full on Netflix this Friday, June 12th — so I've been having to find other ways to pass the time. So, if you’re like me and looking for something to help pass the time, here's what I've turned to: Rewatching previous Orange Is The New Black episodes in preparation for Season 3!

Think about it: Not only is it time well spent, but it's also a great way to prepare yourself for what’s to come in the third season. Instead of agonizing over what Alex is up to in Season 3, or whether or not Rosa did any… ahem… damage with the van, spend the remaining hours before OITNB Season 3 is released by revisiting how the women at Litchfield came to be in prison, how they built friendships there, and how they got their kicks. You’ll be better equipped to watch the new season if you’ve brushed up on all of the important details from the past two.

But, where to begin? Here, of course: Check out the list below for all of the episodes you have to watch again before the new season starts.

1. Season 1, Episode 1: “I Wasn’t Ready”

Take a trip back in time to see when it all began. What better way to see just how much Piper has been changed than to revisit what she was like before she got to Litchfield?

2. Season 1, Episode 3: “Lesbian Request Denied”

Because that time Crazy Eyes peed on Piper’s floor was EVERYTHING.

3. Season 1, Episode 4: “Imaginary Enemies”

One of the more intense episodes of the show, the search for the missing screwdriver had everyone on the edge of their seats, and is an absolute favorite of mine.

4. Season 1, Episode 8: “Moscow Mule”

See where Piper and Larry’s relationship began to falter with the release of his “Modern Love” column — and how the prison reacts to all of the bombshells it includes.

5. Season 1, Episode 9: “F**ksgiving”

Definitely the most significant episode of the past two seasons, Sophia’s struggle to be accepted by her son and let her wife move on has some important moments you can’t miss.

7. Season 2, Episode 9: “40 OZ of Furlough”

In this episode, Piper is allowed to leave prison for a specified time in order to attend her Grandmother’s funeral — and it's one of the first time we've seen her outside of Litchfield apart from in the first episode and in flashbacks.

8. Season 2, Episode 10: “Little Mustachioed S**t”

One of the most satisfying moments in the show’s history is watching that Mendez get what's coming to him.

9. Season 2, Episode 12: “It Was The Change”

A sleepover in the mess hall? What fun! Except, well... this sleepover is tense with threats of violence and murder. When it's OITNB, though, it's still at least mildly fun.

10. Season 2, Episode13: “We Have Manners. We’re Polite”

If you rewatch one episode from the past seasons it should TOTALLY be this one. It's definitely the most emotionally-charged episode in the series — plus, it will get you caught up on all the cliffhangers the beginning of the third season is bound to deal with.

Happy watching, Litchfield fans!
