The Glass Ceiling Illustrated In A Webpage

by Elizabeth Nolan Brown

You know that little phenomenon folks like to call the glass ceiling? Let's all give a round of applause to a company called Cellular Solutions for summing it up so nicely in one single page. Recently, the UK-based communications company posted photos of every staff member on a "meet the staff" page of the company's website. Let's take a look ...

Annnnnd .... senior management:

One of these things is not like the other .... So, that's funny. Or, rather, it would be funny if it wasn't so sadly illustrative. The top comment on Metro UK's post about Cellular Solutions is a guy who asks "People getting upset because the females all appear to be attractive? Should they have hired some ugly people to tick the equalities box?" Sigh ... The gender imbalance itself doesn't even register.

Cellular Solutions has since taken down the staff page, but you can see a cached copy here. The company explains that following "mentions of the company through certain media channels in relation to our recruitment policy, we have chosen to remove (the staff page) from the website indefinitely ... We are an equal opportunities employer and will remain so."
