'Inside Out's Post-Credits Scene Is A Must-See

by Rachel Simon

It's hard to imagine a time when post-credits scenes, the short clips that occur a few minutes after the end of a movie, are a relatively new thing. Sure, there were a few instances of such scenes back in the '70s and '80s, but it wasn't until the last decade or so that they became so massively popular, particularly for superhero movies. Films like The Avengers, Thor, and Iron Man have all utilized post-credits scenes to get extra information across, typically to great effect. As for non-action movies, post-credits scenes are still somewhat uncommon, but a few films take the leap — and when they do, it's usually very, very good, like the post-credits scene in Pixar's Inside Out .

Although technically, it's not really "post"-credits. The scene comes not even 30 seconds after the movie ends, so most people won't have left their seats by the time it appears on-screen. Still, a few of the film's credits roll before the scene airs, so hey, it counts. And as post-credits scenes go, it's a great one; without spoiling anything, it's a perfect continuation of Inside Out 's main story, providing plenty of laughs and otherwise great moments that ensures the audience leaves on the happiest, most enlightened note possible (trust me, it'll make sense once you've seen it).

Inside Out's final bit is just one of many post-credits scenes to have occurred in this year's movies; they also appeared after the finales of Avengers: Age of Ultron , Tomorrowland, and Kingsman: The Secret Service, among others. All of them have been worthwhile, but personally, Inside Out's is my favorite of all the ones we've seen so far in 2015. The scene is smart, funny, and a sweet end to an already-great movie, and if you weren't already excited for the possibility of a sequel, you will be after this.

Check out Inside Out when it comes to theaters on Friday, and make sure you stay in your seat after the final "real" scene, because you won't want to miss this great end to a pitch-perfect film.
