7 Madonna Collaborations That Proved She's Queen

by Kenya Foy

After dropping a few hints about her upcoming video for “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” there’s even more reason to be giddy with anticipation over Madge’s next major move. Thanks to a poster Madonna shared on Instagram, we know the video certainly won’t be short on female pop star power, thanks to appearances by Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé. The poster shows Madonna accompanied by her fellow performers, unified in all of their sheer musical dominance. It's a Madonna collaboration for the ages.

Those who once posed the question “Why is Madonna?” can just take a gander at how much love Madonna shows to the younger pop star generation as a whole. Even though she’s arguably at the top of her game after over 30 years of recording and touring, she never seems to forget about artists who admire her and hope to achieve her level of success and influence.

Obviously, collaborating with younger artists helps her to continually reinvent herself, but when Madonna works with newer artists, I'm convinced that she does so because of her genuine appreciation for them, rather that just a calculated business move on her part. That could be my Madonna bias showing (guity), but I think the following collaborations are pretty solid proof that when she shares her stage with artists who come after her, it always comes straight from the bottom of her Rebel Heart:

1. When She Kissed Xtina and Britney at 2003 MTV Video Music Awards

Not that Britney and XTina needed the hype that stemmed from the kiss heard 'round the world, but it certainly helped keep their names on the map.

2. When She Collaborated With Britney on "Me Against the Music"

Madge had no problem sharing her hair-flinging, hardcore dancing duties with Britney, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

3. When She Kissed Drake at Coachella

Anyone know who performed at Coachella? How about who wore what? Furthermore, what is a Coachella? Believe it or not, it is possible to not know the answers to any of these questions but still know that Madonna and Drake kissing was the highlight of the festival you know nothing about.

4. When She Performed With Taylor Swift

Clearly, it was nothing but love between two pop icons during Madonna and T. Swift's iHeart Radio Music Awards performance of "Ghost Town."

5. Her Collaboration with Kanye West

We haven't yet heard the tracks West co-produced on Madonna's new album Rebel Heart, but this is obviously another major pop star moment in the making.

6. When She Joined TIDAL

Having Madonna on board with Jay Z's streaming service speaks volumes about the company, and proves that Madonna's not the least bit concerned with her light being potentially dimmed by the presence of other huge stars.

7. When She Performed With Miley Cyrus

Madonna mimicking Cyrus' infamous tongue gesture? Realest co-sign ever.

Keep it up, Madge.
