6 Must-Hear Tracks From Hilary Duff's New Album

by Alex Kritselis

After eight years and two false starts (*cough* "Chasing the Sun" and "All About You" *cough*), Hilary Duff's new album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. , has finally arrived. When the collection hit iTunes on Monday night, I swear I heard the 27-year-old singer's fans let out a collective cheer. "She did it!" they yelled. "It was a long, arduous journey, but she did it.” You’ve gotta hand it to the Duffster: she’s a busy mom, star of TV Land’s new series, Younger , and spokesperson for popular dating app Tinder (just kidding… well, sort of), and she still managed to find the time to record a new LP! What can I say? She’s kind of amazing.

I've been able to listen to Breathe In. Breathe Out. a few times now, and I'm happy to report that it’s a whole lot of fun. Honestly, all I really wanted from Duff's new project was a bunch of catchy dance songs (a la lead single “Sparks”), and she really came through. I will say that the first half of the track list is stronger than the second — but it's a relatively minor gripe. Overall, I think the album is a blast.

Here are 6 must-hear tracks from Hilary Duff's Breathe In. Breathe Out.:

"My Kind"

I had a suspicion I was really going to like "My Kind" when I first heard a snippet of it last week. I'm fairly certain it's my favorite song on the album.

"One In A Million"

"One in a Million" was co-written by rising pop star Tove Lo — no wonder it's so good!

"Lies"

The "Lies" lyrics are a bit "been there, done that," but I just can't resist a repetitive "la la la" hook. I'm not ashamed.

"Tattoo"

"Tattoo" was co-penned by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran (and if you listen closely, you can occasionally hear his vocals on the track).

"Breathe In. Breathe Out."

"Breathe In. Breathe Out." sounds similar to some of the material on Carly Rae Jepsen's last release, Kiss, so, naturally, I dig it.

"Confetti"

I like the idea that we could be so in love with someone that at any moment, we might burst into a million colorful pieces. "Confetti" is definitely an album highlight.

Breathe In. Breathe Out. is available on iTunes and Spotify now.
