Songs Xtina Should Cover Just Because She Can

by Kenya Foy

So, who’s all in favor of Christina Aguilera releasing some more cover songs? Everyone? Well alrighty, then! That means an official roundup of songs that are practically begging for an Xtina vocal makeover is most certainly in order. To date, Aguilera's put her stunning vocal touch on songs like Etta James' "At Last," Aretha Franklin's "(You Me Make Feel Like A) Natural Woman" and James Brown's "It's a Man's World," plus she recently blessed us with her flawless Finding Neverland The Album cover , "Anywhere But Here . " With a list of covers that ambitious, it’s kind of difficult to expand on it. But then again, if the song exists, I'm quite confident Aguilera can execute it.

Before anyone assumes that this compilation of covers absolutely must be restricted to larger-than-life ballads, I can fully assure you that this isn’t true. Let the record show that some of Aguilera's best live performances prove that she can still beautifully deliver a song in a toned-down manner. Powerhouse singing is her signature thing, but she can still impress without all of the vocal theatrics. Keep in mind that this list isn’t based on the most current or hottest songs, but strictly on songs I think her voice could enhance.

Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away"

The obvious song title isn't the only reason this tune made the list. When Aguilera nails her rendition of "Blown Away," we'll be even more ready for an Xtina country album.

Beyoncé's "Resentment"

Not that Bey's version doesn't give me everything I need and more, but I'd love to see what Xtina can add to it.

Ed Sheeran's "One"

C'mon, Xtina. A brief shout out on Twitter was a sweet response to Sheeran's acoustic rendition of "Dirrty," but you have to come through and return the favor already. How about a sassed up cover of "One"?

Mary J. Blige's "I'm Goin' Down"

When The Voice 's Season 2 contestant Sera Hill performed Blige's version of the Rose Royce song, Aguilera was so moved that she joined her onstage afterwards. I expected her to kill it, but she didn't know the lyrics. Gah! Xtina, I need you to learn this song so you can cover it ASAP.

Sam Smith's "Stay With Me"

I know, I know. You've heard this song a million times already! However, if Vin Diesel can cover "Stay With Me," then Aguilera should be allowed to get in on the action. I'm just sayin'...

Rihanna's "Stay"

Something about the soft harmonies and the simple piano melody in "Stay" kind of reminds me of "Say Something," aka, Aguilera and A Great Big World's collaboration. She could totally do this cover.

Kelly Clarkson's "Invincible"

All I need is to hear Xtina duplicate the stunning note Clarkson hits at the 3:10 mark. Also, since Clarkson is the queen of covers, she totally deserves to have someone with an equally amazing voice cover one of her more uplifting songs.
